Following the success of previous collaborations on standout projects like Grill Americano and Society, MPA was once again engaged by Lucas Restaurants; this time to transform a cold shell tenancy into an inviting Mediterranean restaurant complete with al fresco dining.
Carlotta
Situated within the new extension of The Canberra Centre, Carlotta marks the first Canberra venture from Lucas Restaurants. Drawing inspiration from across the Mediterranean, the venue’s premium fitout channels the vibrant essence of the trattorias and tavernas found scattered along the European coastline.
The space features a long dining room, where various seating options include high stools set along the marble-topped bar, offering guests a clear view into the bustling open kitchen. Key design elements include striking green tiles, charming half-curtains, and an impressive wine cellar display that will transport diners to the heart of the European coast.
Working to a tight program, we ensured all bespoke services were newly installed, including air-conditioning, ductwork, and fire services. We were also able to incorporate specific pieces of equipment for the kitchen, such as the integration of the exhaust hood into a bespoke architectural bulkhead.
Chris Lucas, founder of Lucas Restaurants, described his experience working with MPA, saying: “They [MPA] are trusted partners that understand my vision and work tirelessly with my team to deliver to the highest quality projects every time we collaborate with them.”
This new restaurant effortlessly complements the ambiance of Lucas Restaurants’ other venues, offering the perfect setting for indulgent, leisurely lunches, while maintaining the high-energy vibe ideal for a lively evening out.
