Recognised as CitySwitch Champions: Sustainability in practice at MPA.

We’ve been recognised as a 2025 CitySwitch Champion — a milestone that reflects how sustainability is being embedded into the everyday across MPA.

This recognition is driven by consistent, on-the-ground action across both our construction sites and offices, delivering measurable improvements in waste outcomes and supporting our pathway to net zero.

It was acknowledged at last week’s Champions Lunch at Victoria Cross Tower, where businesses across a cross-section of industries came together to share practical approaches to sustainability in action.

Our Head of HSEQ and Sustainability, Martin Malone, also presented, outlining how we are driving measurable progress in reducing emissions across both our own operations and for our clients.

“This recognition demonstrates the power of consistency and education. By standardising and simplifying our waste approach, working closely with our contractors, and providing training for our teams, we’ve achieved industry-leading diversion outcomes across both our construction sites and office locations.”

On our sites

With construction and demolition waste a major contributor to landfill in Australia, we’ve focused on embedding scalable systems that deliver consistent, measurable outcomes across our projects.

  • Over 1,000 tonnes of waste tracked nationally, supported by a centralised waste process

  • Improved from a baseline 65% waste diversion from landfill, to regularly achieving greater than 90% waste diversion from landfill, driven by streamed waste collection, improved reporting and data visibility

  • Closer collaboration with contractors to identify better waste pathways and improve consistency across projects

In our office

Across our offices, the focus has been on improving the fundamentals, making it easier for people to do the right thing and see the impact.

  • Strengthened waste tracking across office locations, with over 3.5 tonnes of office waste tracked and continued improvement compared to FY24 results

  • Rolled out staff education programs with the help of external partners to dispel long-held recycling myths, directly contributing to over 75% waste diversion across offices

  • Updated bin signage using CitySwitch resources, alongside educational sessions delivered by Waste Check, reducing contamination and improving recycling accuracy across teams

These improvements, both on site and in our offices, have been a whole team collective effort, and a strong example of how small, consistent changes can drive meaningful impact at scale.
