University of Wollongong - Learning Spaces
Building on our existing relationship, the University of Wollongong engaged us to refurbish their internal and external Informal Learning Spaces.
The project largely involved working within populated indoor and outdoor common areas in an operational University environment.
The project was scattered throughout the campus and consisted of various works including the refurbishment to the student waiting area, construction of new outdoor joinery and pavilions and interior fitout of foyer and student lounge.
The works also involved a complete refurbishment to the outdoor precinct and awning of Amphitheatre building, and reconfiguration of the balcony.
Each division of the project had its own drivers however, the key project driver for the University was to minimise disruption to the students and staff during construction. It was also essential
that all collaboration spaces were flexible and multifunctional to ensure they could be adapted to suit a variety of functions, whilst being ergonomic, durable and pleasing to the eye.
There was a strong focus on external works, which involved landscaping and carpentry works to form outdoor study spaces.
The amphitheater contained custom seat and table joinery with power points, enabling students
to have the flexibility of the multifunctional space. Each outdoor area has its own features due to the focus on constructing individualised spaces for collaboration.
Due to our prior experience on campus, any construction difficulties encountered were swiftly handled by the team. MPA minimised disruption to The University, students and visitors by maximising the amount of construction area behind temporary fencing and hoarding, therefore enabling the University to operate as usual.
