Spanning 11 levels atop Sydney’s Martin Place Metro Station, we recently delivered ASX’s new headquarters, occupying a prominent position in the heart of the CBD. The ground floor features Exchange Place — a new public event space housing the iconic ASX listing announcement bell and offering outlooks over Martin Place.
ASX Workplace
ASX acknowledged the significance of this place: “This land has long been a place of gathering and exchange, where First Nations peoples shared knowledge, culture and ideas, the oldest form of trading on earth. That enduring spirit of exchange is one we celebrate as we open Exchange Place, ASX’s new public event space at the heart of Sydney’s financial district.”
Engaging global designers Bates Smart, ASX had a vision to create a world-class headquarters for their employees that embodies their market-leading position. Transitioning to a more agile, technology-driven workplace model with a high level of custom AV integration, the space supports flexible seating and minimal offices, with floors dedicated to collaboration, focus, and social connection.
Nine levels are unified through a striking staircase, with tickers wrapped around each level to broadcast live ASX share prices. On Level 27, a showcase space draws you in, with a prominent LED screen the size of the stair void on the ceiling. The highly flexible client floor, featuring operable walls, extensive AV and colour-changing lighting, creates an elegant yet captivating space.
MPA were engaged early, leveraging a trusted 15-year relationship built on consistent delivery across multiple projects. With established relationships among consultants, Bates Smart, Generate and Aston Consulting, and the landlord, Investa, we worked collaboratively to push the boundaries of what was possible, creating a truly exceptional environment for ASX. This early engagement was critical to the success of such an expansive and complex project, streamlining the delivery process and ensuring a seamless experience from start to finish.
“The MPA team’s professionalism, collaboration, and commitment throughout this 12,000sqm project were exceptional. Despite complex challenges identified in the pre-construction period, the team delivered an outstanding result — on time, on budget, and to an incredibly high standard.” Rob Ramka, ASX
With safety top of mind and through meticulous pre-construction planning, we implemented procedures that eliminated risk for workers. For the installation of the stairs, we implemented a rolling-catch deck system to eliminate the risk of live edges and potential falls during the nine-floor penetrations. As each floor was opened to create space for the stairs, a temporary deck was rolled into place, allowing us to work concurrently on all floors, accelerating our progress and ensuring workers were protected at every stage.
From the custom resin lights to the operable walls, we ensured that all parts of this unique project were easily accessible, serviceable, and sustainable. Providing ASX with a space that will remain functional and pristine well into the future, every decision and installation was completed knowing that this fitout needed to be built to last.
This project is what’s possible when trust, innovation, and long-term partnership converge. This project stands apart: for its scale, local significance and technicality.
